Someone must have wanted that 20th Anniversary PS4, sells for $129k

By Keith MitchellJanuary 26, 2015

A limited edition 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 auction has ended and when the dust had finally settled, someone had won the bid at ¥15,135,000 or $129,000.00 dollars confirmed by The Wall Street Journal. The auction was held by Sony and all the money donated via the winning bid will be donated to Save The Children Japan as well as a matched bonus from Sony.

For those wondering, the unit that was put up for bids was indeed the very first unit from the 20th Anniversary, making it pretty rare to begin with. One can only imagine the bragging rights for even owning that system.

“We appreciate all who participated in the auction and are surprised at the highest bid price, which was higher than our expectations,” a Sony representative said

The 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 was designed to look like the original PlayStation and included a matching controller. Only 12,300 of the limited edition system were produced and sold globally via a lottery system or auctions. The systems that were sold went for $499.99 originally and were nearly sold out as soon as they were available.

I didn’t attempt to purchase a system, as soon as I heard about them I figured they were gone and they just about were.
