IO Interactive has announced that cross-progression is finally coming to Hitman World of Assassination, and it’s something players have been asking for since the game expanded to so many different platforms.
Cross-progression will be activated on February 3, 2026, allowing players to carry their progression across supported platforms using their IOI Account. That means whether you are switching from console to PC, playing on multiple devices, or moving to a new platform entirely, your progress will follow you across the Hitman 1, Hitman 2, and Hitman 3 games.
Cross-progression uses a Primary Account model. Once you link your platforms to your IOI Account, you choose one platform as your primary progression profile, and every other linked platform will sync to that profile going forward. With Hitman World of Assassination now playable on more than 10 platforms, this update should make it much easier to jump between devices without worrying about restarting your grind from scratch.
According to IOI, cross-progression will carry over key progression data across all linked platforms, including experience and player level, challenges, location mastery, unlocks and inventory, achievements and trophies, Freelancer mode progression, and overall campaign story progress. So, if you’ve been grinding mastery levels, chasing Silent Assassin challenges, or putting time into building out your Freelancer safehouse, you won’t have to redo all that work just because you switched platforms.
There are limitations, though. While progression will carry across platforms, licenses will not. Players will still need to own the base game and any DLC on each platform they play on, since game licenses, DLC licenses, and DLC-based unlocks will not transfer. In other words, if something is tied to DLC content, you will still need that DLC on the platform you want to use it on.
IOI also included an important note about save games. Old saves created on non-primary linked accounts will not be loadable while cross-progression is active. However, players can disable cross-progression at any time, which will revert non-primary linked accounts back to their previous state and restore access to saves.
Ahead of the February 3 rollout, IOI also confirmed a Steam patch (3.250.1) is scheduled to go live next week to help ensure cross-progression works properly at launch.
Finally, IOI confirmed that the older Hitman 2 to Hitman 3 carryover process is being shut down to avoid conflicts with the new unified progression system. Players who still have not completed their carryover will need to do so before February 3, 2026, as the carryover process will no longer be available after February 3 at 9:00 UTC.
