Pokemon Remains The Highest-Grossing Media Franchise Ever

...it's not even close, to be honest.

Pokemon Logo, Halo

In the world we live in, we often judge things on the “gauge” of the almighty dollar sign…or whatever monetary sign you have where you live! For media franchises, it’s absolutely about making as money as you can so that you can make more of what you’re doing. What might surprise you, though, isn’t just that Pokemon remains the highest-grossing media franchise out there, but that its output across all of its media is more than TRIPLE what the No.2 franchise is, and that’s not likely to change anytime soon.

For proof of this, look at this list that Civixplorer posted on Twitter. You’ll see the top twelve media franchises and how much they’ve grossed all time. As noted, Pokemon reigns supreme with nearly 290 BILLION in overall grossing. Second best? Hello Kitty is at just over 88 billion. That’s insane! Just as interesting, is that you could add up the totals of the Mickey Mouse brand, Winnie the Pooh, the Disney princesses brand, AND the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and you STILL wouldn’t be able to touch the gaming and merch giant that is pocket monsters:

It doesn’t hurt that the franchise is still cranking out best-selling titles that add to the wealth, like Pokemon Legends Z-A. Or that characters like Ash Ketchum are so iconic that they even make appearances in Death Battle.

Plus, we know that “Gen 10” is on the way, and thanks to the Switch 2’s success so far, those are guaranteed to move numbers, so that number will likely be at 300 Billion sooner rather than later.
