Famitsu has talked to a variety of video game creators about their aspirations for the new year in 2026. One that has caught the attention of Nihon Falcom fans is a quote from Toshihiro Kondo. Note that these aren’t things set in stone, but goals the creators have for the new year.
“Until now, Falcom has been operating at the pace of always releasing one new title a year, but the staff has continued to grow little by little, and a system has been established that seems to be able to do more than that. (We aim to) increase the titles and start (up) a new challenge. I want to show these results to some extent in 2026. There may be a lack of environment, but I try not to use it as an excuse.” (Translated via Google Translate)
Nihon Falcom is currently planning to release their big title for 2026 as Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter. This means they are also aiming to release a new game that isn’t just a remake of Trails in the Sky Second Chapter. Further down in the article, Kondo even notes that this new title “will be (announced soon), so stay tuned.”
If you are a Nihon Falcom fan in the West, you would be forgiven for thinking that they had more than one title being worked on in a year, since 2025 had three titles released. We had The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II, Ys vs Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga, and Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. These were games all being done by a different publisher. The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II was published by NIS America, Ys vs Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga was done by refint/games, and Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter was done by Gungho Online Entertainment.
There are already three titles that will be released in the West that we know of from Nihon Falcom in 2026. The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond The Horizon, Ys X: Proud Nordics, and Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
I hope that whatever title Nihon Falcom announces alongside Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter also comes to the West next year, but I don’t think that is necessary with how much work they are doing already. Maybe it is the Tokyo Xanadu sequel?
