Nintendo Dominated Gaming News Coverage In 2025

Gee...I wonder why...?

It’s been a blast covering video game news, among other things, on The Outerhaven in 2025, and I’m sure many of my fellow writers will agree with me on that. I have no doubt, though, that most of my articles were Nintendo-focused more often than not. After all, it is my console line of choice, and I write plenty of reviews about titles that have come out for the platform. What I am slightly surprised about is how many other people wrote about The Big N this year. As GameIndustry.Biz noted in their “year in review” collection piece, the company was covered more than any other gaming company in 2025.

According to them, over 236,000 articles were written about Nintendo this year, and the year still isn’t over yet! That’s a nice win for them, and it’s not hard to see why they got that accolade, as the Switch 2 reveal, its two Directs we’ve gotten, and the various big-name titles that have dropped for it have gotten a lot of attention. Plus, there was that “section of the internet” that tried to write up how “terrible” it is and how “it was destined to flop,” when that wasn’t even close to the case.

Almost as ironic is that the No.2 most talked about publisher of 2025 was Xbox, and I can’t help but think that this was due to how the company, thanks to Microsoft’s lack of focus and true leadership, has been floundering this year. There were even talks that it would drop gaming altogether, and I’m sure many people wrote about that. Also, losing all of its big exclusives to other systems definitely drummed up some news talk.

How will things go in 2026, news-wise? We’ll find out soon enough, now won’t we?
