RUMOR: Mario Kart World Nintendo Switch 2 Bundle Beginning To Get Phased Out

It'll be curious to see what happens next.
By Todd BlackDecember 21, 2025
Nintendo Switch 2, Mario Kart World

When the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, a LOT of people said it “wasn’t going to do well,” and that having Mario Kart World wasn’t enough to “move systems.” Yeah, they were wrong, and continue to be wrong with each week that passes. Not only has the Switch 2 done incredibly well, but it’s added incredible system-sellers like Metroid Prime 4, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment, and more to expand its gaming lineup. Plus, 3rd parties are jumping in to bring games to the console. However, a key element of the system’s sales has been bundling the platform with Mario’s latest racing title.

Nintendo made it clear early on that the bundle wouldn’t last forever, and now, Nintendeal states that an internal GameStop memo highlights how the bundle has “reached the end of its lifecycle,” and thus, won’t be continued further:

CONFIRMED: the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle has officially ended production according to an internal GameStop memo

"This bundle SKU has now reached end of lifecycle, and additional units will no longer be produced. Future replenishment of Nintendo Switch 2 will be the base… pic.twitter.com/RYTgQvbUaQ

Why is this important? First and foremost, this was a great deal for gamers, as the console bundle was basically $50 less than you’d have to pay for the two separately. Plus, that now means that if you want Mario Kart World, you have to pay the full $80 for it, which many have an issue with.

It should be noted that not every Nintendo Switch 2 has been the bundle, and that the attach rate with the racing game is insanely high. It was proven early on that people DID buy it outside the bundle, with over 1 million units (at that point) being sold separately.

So, it’s a toss-up whether the game will continue to sell as it has, since people have to “shell out some extra dough” to get it, versus getting it at a more manageable price. As for the Switch 2, that’s going to continue to sell, especially with more big-name titles coming out in 2026.
