NIS America has officially announced that demos for The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon are now available worldwide, giving fans of the series their first hands-on look at the next chapter in the long-running Trails series.

With these demos, players can choose between two distinct demo experiences across multiple platforms. A Story Demo, which introduces the game’s narrative through its Prologue, is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, a Battle Demo focused entirely on combat is available exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Story Demo Details

The Story Demo allows players to experience the Prologue of Trails beyond the Horizon, as Van Arkride and the members of Arkride Solutions return with the fate of the entire Zemurian continent hanging in the balance.

With Zemuria preparing for humanity’s first venture into space, Van Arkride, Ashen Chevalier Rean Schwarzer, and Father Kevin Graham are summoned to a Marduk training exercise. What begins as a routine operation quickly sets them on a path toward uncovering secrets tied to the very core of the world. While their individual journeys may diverge, the central mystery remains the same: what truly lies beyond the edge of the horizon?

The Story Demo is available now on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Save data from the demo will carry over to the full game on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 with a day-one patch.

Battle Demo Overview

For players more interested in combat systems, the Battle Demo drops players directly into the Grim Garten. This virtual reality dungeon was originally developed by Marduk before being hacked by Ouroboros, resulting in altered layouts and corrupted functionality.

Players can choose from three party leaders, Van, Kevin, or Rean, and assemble teams to take on the Grim Garten’s challenges. The dungeon is a corrupted evolution of the Marchen Garten, once considered the world’s first fully immersive virtual reality service capable of connecting users across the continent via the orbal network.

The Battle Demo, however, is exclusive on to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Release Date and Editions

The Trails beyond the Horizon Limited Edition is available for preorder through the NIS Online Store for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon launches on January 15, 2026, and will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
