Both the comic and manga industries are something to pay attention to right now, as both sides of the equation have been seeing boosts in readership for various reasons. For Square Enix, they launched an app earlier in 2922 called Manga Up! that would allow readers to enjoy manga based on the properties that they are directly tied to. Today, the publisher dropped a press release talking about how the app has reached 5 million downloads.
“Manga UP! is a comics distribution platform that makes English translations of popular SQUARE ENIX manga titles such as The Apothecary Diaries, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, and Black Butler available to readers around the world, with many titles available earlier than anywhere else. The Company launched the platform in July 2022 as the global version of the Manga UP! app it had already rolled out in Japan. In addition to hosting a library of best-selling titles that have already completed their runs, the global version also makes ongoing series available in English to global readers nearly simultaneously with their releases in Japan. The platform offered roughly 160 titles on launch, but that figure has since grown to more than 350, meeting with much acclaim from readers.”
It’s good to see Square Enix having such success across both its manga lines and its recent games. To thank fans for its success, the publisher is also offering a special discounted deal:
“We will commemorate our five-millionth download by offering users who purchase Coin on Manga UP! up to 50% of that amount back in XP (free bonus items used to access manga content) starting December 13.”
