Lords of the Fallen II Gameplay Revealed at The Game Awards, Launching in 2026

While Lords of the Fallen II was announced back in August 2025, we finally got our first real look at the game in action thanks to a new gameplay trailer released during The Game Awards.

Lords of the Fallen II is currently in active development and marks a major return to the dark fantasy action rpg genre. Set 1,000 years after the fall of the god Adyr, the game takes place in a human realm pushed to the brink by ancient malevolent gods, visceral magic, and relentless defenders. A lone kingdom now stands against the encroaching dead realm known as Umbral and its eldritch master, as players step into the role of the Lampbearer to confront horrors that refuse to stay buried. The world itself is expansive and defined by the series’ trademark dual-realm system, allowing players to traverse and survive between the realms of the living and the dead.

This sequel is shaping up to be bigger, bolder, and far more brutal than its predecessor. Combat is faster and more fluid, introducing a new dismemberment feature that allows enemies to be torn apart limb by limb, along with all-new executions designed to silence them permanently. An expanded variety of enemies and jaw-dropping boss battles promise to challenge even the most seasoned players, whether tackling the game solo or through shared progression co-op, with PVP now being on the table, which was something that fans of the first game were very vocal about nothing being the first game.

The first gameplay reveal showcased several bosses, including the chain-wielding Heartroot Warden, the winged Koydreth striking from a rune-etched mirror, and Lingao the Souring Storm, a colossal dragon capable of harnessing wind and lightning. I can’t wait to either go kick their asses or them doing so to me.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Lords of the Fallen II is set to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store. I’m not sure making this Epic Games Store exclusive, especially since people still have reservations about that storefront.

Personally, I really enjoyed the reimagined Lords of the Fallen. Performance issues aside, I thought it was an amazing experience. The variety of locations kept the world feeling fresh, the boss fights were absolutely brutal, and the Umbral system was a genuinely interesting way to innovate on the traditional soulslike formula. On top of that, its co-op system is easily one of the better implementations available in an action RPG or soulslike today. Needless to say, I’m quite looking forward to Lords of the Fallen 2.
