Could The Professor Layton Series Get HD Ports After New Game Releases?

And what about a demo for the new game?
By Todd BlackDecember 6, 2025
Professor Layton

Fans of the Professor Layton series, of which I’ve played a few myself, know that the series is all about fun puzzles, clever characters, deep storylines, and some really interesting payoffs. The franchise “ended” quite a while ago, but Level-5 is bringing it back with a new game that’ll drop on the Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 next year. It promises not only updated visuals and a nice jump in time from the last game, but the trademark puzzles that many know to expect from the series.

However, some have been wondering about what will happen afterward, especially since the bulk of the franchise was released on Nintendo handhelds. In an interview, the head of Level-5, Akihiro Hino, was asked about it, and he noted that the release of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam was the team’s focus. However, after the game is out…they could consider doing HD updates of the two trilogies. That wouldn’t be unlike a certain other character that the professor has crossed over with: Phoenix Wright, who had his two trilogies given the HD treatment and brought to modern systems, including the Nintendo Switch.

Oh, and if you’re hoping for a demo of the new game? That’s not likely to happen, as Level-5 doesn’t want spoilers for whatever puzzles they have in the section they release. Hopefully, we’ll get a release date for the upcoming title soon!
