For years now, The Boys has been building to a key crescendo, and last season, we saw the vision of it. Homelander, through the machinations of Sister Sage, has taken over the United States and has declared war on everyone who stands against him, human or Supe. He must be taken down, and that means uneasy alliances and steeled wills must be made. The first trailer for the fifth and final season of the Amazon Prime Video series has arrived, and it promises that there will be plenty of action, hard choices, and not everyone will make it out alive.
What’s immediately shocking is that we see The Boys back together right at the beginning of the trailer. That’s important because at the end of last season, only Starlight and Billy Butcher were able to escape the kidnapping that Homelander initiated. Furthermore, Butcher lost his mind and gained new powers due to the cancer within him that he supercharged with Temp-V. Obviously, something happened to bring him back in the good graces of his crew, as he’s rallying them one more time to take down Homelander and all the other corrupt Supes.
Other surprises include Homelander reviving his “father” in Soldier Boy, the first tease of Jared Padalecki (no Mischa Collins just yet…), and some grim looks at the world they all now live in. Plus, the ending makes it clear that Homelander is killing someone rather violently…who could it be…?
