Rune Factory 5 was released a few years ago, and with it came what I thought was one of the greatest Collector’s Editions ever created. The Earthmate Edition included the physical game with extra DLC installed, an awesome 70-page art book, a soundtrack CD, and a special box to store it all. That was a lot of stuff for $80 I never thought I’d see a better Collector’s Edition. But that changes next month with the release of the Pipin’ Hot Edition of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splintered Fate.
Splintered Fate came out in 2023 for mobile devices and has since been ported to multiple consoles. The game is a mix of classic TMNT gameplay with the Hades roguelike experience. If you want to learn more about the game itself, you can read the review here. What we’re talking about is the Pipin’ Hot Edition, which has overtaken Rune Factory 5 for the best Collector’s Edition I have ever seen.
The Pipin’ Hot Edition was originally supposed to be released in August alongside a new Deluxe Edition of the game. By the time we reached August, it was delayed to October, then delayed again, and will be released on December 5. I managed to score myself a Nintendo Switch copy of the Pipin’ Hot Edition, and I want to tell you about how rad it is, because you’re getting so much stuff for just $100.
The first thing that jumped out at me when opening the package was the collector’s box. It looks like a pizza box, and it’s incredibly sturdy. The sides are so rigid that I had trouble getting it out of the slipcover without tearing it. It has an awesome design and is great for storing stuff. Next is the game itself, which is the only thing that isn’t exclusive to the Pipin’ Hot Edition.
The game included with the Pipin’ Hot Edition is the Deluxe Edition, which is far superior to the $30 digital version. The Deluxe Edition is a physical cartridge that includes a sealed pack of ten collectible game cards inside the case.
The cartridge also includes the Casey Jones & the Junkyard Jam DLC pack on the cartridge. There’s also a code to download the extended art book. If you don’t want all the extra goodies, you can buy the Deluxe Edition by itself for $40.
But other than the collector’s box and slipcover, what else are you getting for the extra $60? The next two things that stood out to me were the comic book and art book. You’re receiving the Splintered Fate comic book by Henry Barajas, Pablo Verdugo, and Gigi Dutrix.
It’s a high-quality comic book from IDW Publishing that was originally released in 2023. The art book includes 50 pages of key art and concept designs and tons of useful information as it doubles as a game manual.
Remember those?
Next up are a couple of small goodies that I thought were cool. There’s a set of seven tabletop RPG dice and a special tin to store them in. There’s also a collectible coin. I’m normally not a fan of collectible coins. I see them everywhere, from Pokémon card boxes to free giveaways at conventions. I must have dozens that are simple designs made of plastic. But the Splintered Fate one blew me away. It’s a double-sided metallic coin. It’s thick, heavy, and engraved with a sick design.
Lastly, you get two posters to hang on your wall. Both of the designs are pretty cool. In general, I think the amount of stuff you’re getting for $100 is really cool. There’s so much stuff, and I can tell that a lot of care went into the quality.
If you’re a fan of the game or you just love the turtles, the Pipin’ Hot Edition is worth picking up. You can pre-order this edition on Amazon, and there’s currently a 20% Black Friday discount.
