The Story

Before Arthur can even attend his first class, he’s paid a visit by Xyrus Academy’s headmaster, Cynthia Goodsky. They hold a discussion where Arthur wants to be permitted to take an advanced class on deviation. It’s granted, but Cynthia has a counterproposal. She wants Arthur to join the discipline committee, especially after the display that occurred in the previous volume. Arthur is backed into a corner, but accepts in exchange for being given access to a high-mana-yielding training room.

Arthur meets his fellow committee members, some of whom are familiar faces that we haven’t seen in a while! After the student council introduces them, Arthur becomes the center of attention… the complete opposite of his plans to lay low while attending the academy. From here, he attends his classes until he comes across a practical mana manipulation class headed up by Professor Geist… someone he ran into before. Geist targets the committee, seeking to embarrass them; however, Arthur is the one who ultimately turns the tables on his plan. Geist’s motives make it back to Cynthia, who offers Arthur the chance to become the interim professor of that very same class!

Suddenly, Arthur is becoming the center of attention way faster than he would like to be, but that doesn’t stop him from continuing through his classes. This time, he meets Professor Glory in an upper-division class. She boasts about his accolades in a way that makes the other students in the class become angered and jealous of him. This leads to a three-on-three battle between the disciplinary committee and the student council; however, the student council only has two members. The third slot for their team is filled by someone who holds a deep grudge against Arthur… and our volume ends in an intense battle against them!

Characters

So much for Arthur’s low profile! Cynthia is skilled at manipulating Arthur; however, she notes that something feels off whenever she negotiates with him. She says it’s more pressure talking to him than the royals. Her familiar then spills the beans about a couple of things about Arthur, and with those comes a dire warning. Cynthia is beyond shocked at what she hears, which causes her to have a newfound respect for Arthur… one driven by pure fear! It’ll be interesting to see how she acts around him going forward after learning some of his secrets!

Tessia received some development here. It pained her to act like she didn’t know Arthur, and this culminated during the upper-division class. Right before their spar began, she had a heart-to-heart talk with Arthur about it, and despite Arthur not wanting any of his secrets leaked, he assured her that there was no reason for her to hold back when it came to knowing him. This made her happy… and the romance continues to build between them. There were a couple of moments where she became quite jealous of the people hanging around him, wishing that she could be there by his side, too. It was pretty cute to see her get all pouty! Now that she has permission not to act like a stranger, it’ll be cool to see how they interact going forward!

We received a few new characters with the introduction of the Disciplinary Committee. First is Kai Crestless, who greets Arthur with a lion… which isn’t his. Before we get to see who it belongs to, he’s also greeted by a rather jacked-up girl named Doradrea, who seems rough and tough, but acts pretty giddy and outgoing. She should be a fun character!

The other committee members were returning characters in Princess Katheryn, the owner of our lion familiar, Curtis, and our cute little stuck-up FeyFey (Feyrith Ivsaar). However, just when we think the whole committee is together, we get another two characters with a sixth-year student, and the head of the committee, Claire Bladeheart! She seems to take a liking to Arthur almost immediately; however, her partner, Theodore Maxwell, immediately puts Arthur to the test by enhancing his handshake with gravity magic. When he can withstand it, he grins and accepts his strength!

Our other new characters were simply professors, but outside of Professor Geist, they haven’t had much in the way of prominent roles as of yet. Of course, Geist is still egotistical and lets that get in the way of his job of being a professor. Wanting to lash out at Arthur, get his revenge, and embarrass the disciplinary committee did him in, job-wise; however, it was nice to see him get put in his place. It’s always fun to see some snarky egoist get their pride bubble popped. Professor Glory seems like a sassy, fun time, but outside of stirring the pot, she hasn’t done much of anything to truly flesh out her character.

Final Thoughts

Let the education arc begin… although, can we truly call this an education arc? Arthur pretty much entered school, became part of a disciplinary committee, and became a professor all on the very first day! Besides, he even admitted that most of these classes were just to fill in the blanks of the things he hadn’t learned… especially deviation, since that wasn’t available to him in his home world.

Outside of that, the volume simply introduced us to the school, introduced some new characters to us, and reunited us with some that we haven’t seen in a while… both friend and foe. As far as an introduction to a new arc, this had everything going for it… including some nice plot advancement. One of the more exciting plot points was Cynthia learning a bit about Arthur’s true nature, even though her familiar doesn’t know that he’s from another world, but it can tell that there is something strangely off about him.

I still like Tessia as a character. She’s just too cute in her mannerisms, and I love how she gets shy and jealous around Arthur… especially when Claire from the committee notices it and snuggles up to Art right in front of her! All in all, it was quite the fun volume, but it looks as if the action will continue as we will conclude our little 3 vs 3 sparring match. Our old rival has learned some new tricks, so it will be interesting to see how Arthur prepares his counterattack!
