Tales fans have been waiting at the edge of their seat for the next remaster to be announced after Tales of Xillia’s remaster was finally released. Today is the day we learn what the next one was, and for many, it was not an exciting announcement. Tales of Berseria Remastered is the next one on the list.
The elephant in the room is essentially that Tales of Berseria is a game available on Steam and PlayStation 4, so these aren’t necessarily bringing games back from isolated boxes into a more accessible sphere of gamers. That said, it will be releasing on Nintendo Switch and Xbox now as well. Tales of Berseria was never available for those platforms, even though it was released almost 10 years ago.
Tales of Berseria follows Velvet Crowe as she seeks vengeance for the death of her brother at the hands of Artorious. After her brother dies, the world shifts into a place of nightmares as beasts become visible to the naked eye. It was one of my favorite Tales games, and Velvet is a solid protagonist to follow. Especially as the world becomes more and more grey, and Velvet’s vengeance becomes a much harder pill to swallow when her brother’s death could potentially have caused the salvation of the world as she knows it.
Tales of Berseria Remastered has a resolution bump to 4K, but honestly, even at 1080p upscaled on a PS5, it looks fantastic. I don’t know how much better it can look, but I am interested in seeing it. I don’t think the YouTube trailer is a good indicator personally, since it will look much better running native on a system than a trailer. The most important thing I am interested in is what is new to this version than the PS4 or Steam versions currently released.
The only thing we get told in the press release is “This remaster brings new quality-of-life updates, such as destination icons, encounter toggling and early grade shop access that will ease the journey of new players in this classic action JRPG.”
Either way, I am excited to see Velvet Crowe reach a new audience! Tales of Berseria Remastered will be available February 26th, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
