What the what? Hold the phone. Today, a new beat ’em up was announced, and this one is a serious blast from the past. The Rushing Beat series, known to many in the West as Brawl Brothers, is officially making a comeback with RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers. The last time we saw Rick Norton and Douglas Bild was way back in 1993 on the Super Nintendo.
The beat ’em up series is back, but it won’t be Jaleco (which doesn’t exisit anymore) at the helm, but Clear River Games that has teamed up with City Connection, a developer who focuses on retro titles, to bring this SNES beat ’em up classic, back to life. RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers on March 19, 2026.
And yes, that guy does look like he’s M.Bison.
For those who are unaware on what RUSHING BEAT was, this was another beat ’em up series that was created to go up against the Double Dragons, Final Fights and Streets of Rage, during the SNES and Sega Genesis era. It didn’t set the world on fire, but it was dumb fun, and hopefully we’ll get more of that next year.
Completely rebuilt for modern audiences, RUSHING BEAT X brings back non-stop beat em up action for one or two players. Players will once again take control of Rick Norton and Douglas Bild, joined by four new playable heroes as they battle to uncover the sinister Zeekus virus and stop a mysterious new threat from unleashing chaos across the city.
RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers features new combat mechanics including auto-combo support for newcomers, counterattacks, cancelable moves, and Beat Rush finishing techniques. Players can also activate Rage Mode to temporarily boost attack power and speed while unlocking devastating special moves. Cooperative play allows two players to team up locally to combine fighting styles, chain combos, and strategize to take down tougher enemies. The game also introduces a variety of stages and hidden content, with side missions, secret weapons, multiple character paths, and new surprises waiting to be discovered.
There hasn’t been any mention on online co-op or cross-play as of yet, but I hope that’s going to be included by the time the game is released next year.
RUSHING BEAT X: Return of Brawl Brothers officially brings this cult-classic beat ’em up series into the modern era when it launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam on March 19, 2026.
