The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Arrives Alongside Cast Announcements

By Todd BlackNovember 12, 2025
Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer

Nintendo sure loves to do roundabout ways of announcing things, now don’t they? They announced that the Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer would be announced in a special Nintendo Direct, and sure enough, they did just that. Shigeru Miyamoto headed up the movie Direct alongside the head of Illumination to give the first look at what the movie would be. While it may not have been everything fans hoped to see, it did give a couple of key announcements that fans will enjoy.

First and foremost, we did get a look at some of the galactic adventures that the Mario crew will go on, including teasers of some of the worlds Peach, Mario, and Luigi will explore, and some of the bad guys they’ll face. Just as important, though, was that the trailer confirmed two new characters for the sequel, as the trailer revealed Rosalina…and Bowser Jr!.

Oh, it gets even better, as Rosalina will be voiced by none other than Brie Larson! As we’ve discussed on the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, she’s a huge Nintendo fan, and has made it known she’s up for some movie roles (let her be Samus!!!), and now her wish has come true! As for Bowser Jr., he’ll be played by Benny Safdie, whom you might know as the Director of films like The Smashing Machine, Uncut Gems, and more!

The movie is still set for April 2026, but Illumination stated that the animation is in its “final weeks” of work.
