A few months ago, I wrote a piece about just how well Nintendo was doing in terms of overall lifetime sales of its software and hardware. To say it was impressive was an understatement, as the numbers revealed were extraordinary, and something that likely will never be topped. However, today, while dropping a press release about the company’s Black Friday sales, Business Wire confirmed that The Big N has sold over six BILLION software units in its lifetime, alongside 870 million consoles. So, yeah, that’s pretty good.
What’s very important about this number is that it was helped to that milestone by the success of the Nintendo Switch 2 and its big 1st party titles that have dropped so far. Pokémon Legends Z-A, Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, and more all shot the number over 6 billion.
Plus, as I’ve covered, there’s more to come! Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is out right now and is likely to do well, and then Kirby Air Riders will follow, with 2025 being capped off by Metroid Prime 4.
All of these will help sell the Switch 2, and Nintendo’s stats will be padded as a result of this. So, whenever someone says to you that the company “will go the way of Xbox,” show them these stats…and then tell them (like my NEP crew said last week) to shut up.
