Sony Announces Special State Of Play For Japan

What are they up to with this...?
By Todd BlackNovember 10, 2025
State of Play Japan

All three of the main console makers have their own “online events” that they love to show off, and for Sony, it’s the “State Of Play” events. This is their chance to show off upcoming titles and highlight what gamers can expect from them in the coming months or even years. As revealed on the PlayStation Blog today, there will be a special Japan-focused version of the event dropping tomorrow:

State of Play Japan announced, premiering tomorrow, November 11 at 2PM PT/5PM ET

Sony touted the event with the following:

“From beloved series to distinctive indie creations, the show, hosted by voice actor Yuki Kaji, will be packed with great games, interviews, and new looks at anticipated titles.”

This is a curious announcement, and one that has many wondering what Sony is attempting here. The consensus in some people’s minds is that Sony is attempting to use this State of Play to “spur sales” of the PlayStation 5 in Japan, as it’s been dominated by Nintendo consoles over the last several years.

Whether they are successful or not will entirely depend on the games that are shown.
