Grand Theft Auto 6 Officially Delayed to November 2026

I called it... I knew it was going to be delayed.

I just want to say that I was right when I said Grand Theft Auto 6 was going to be delayed. As of November 6, 2025, Rockstar Games has officially announced that GTA 6 will miss its original release date of May 26, 2026, and will now launch on November 19, 2026.

Hi everyone,

Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.

We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.

According to Rockstar, the delay is to give the team more time to make the game the best it can be. That makes sense. This is the company’s most expensive project to date, and they clearly want to make sure everything is perfect before release.

Rockstar Games is also facing internal controversy following reports that over 30 employees were recently fired across its UK and Canada offices. While the company claims the terminations were due to “gross misconduct” tied to the sharing of confidential material, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain alleges the move targeted developers involved in union organizing. The timing being so close to Grand Theft Auto 6’s delay announcement, has sparked criticism from labor advocates and fans who say the studio’s culture is once again under scrutiny.

It’s been more than a decade since Grand Theft Auto V first released back in 2013, so it’s no surprise that expectations for GTA 6 are sky-high. Many fans suspected a delay was coming, especially with Rockstar remaining quiet since the first trailer dropped nearly a year ago and with no major updates appearing during events like Summer Game Fest 2025.

This isn’t the first time Rockstar has pushed back a major title either. Both Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were delayed several times before release, and both went on to become massive critical and commercial successes. If history repeats itself, this extra time could make all the difference.

From a business standpoint, this delay probably has other developers breathing a sigh of relief. Nobody wants to launch next to Grand Theft Auto 6. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a few studios quietly shift their release windows now that Rockstar has claimed late November.

The only thing that does stink is that the game is going to miss the Summer 2026 season and will be released when most people are heading back to school, college and yes, their jobs.
