Donkey Kong Bananza Has Sold Nearly 3.5 Million Units

And the sales will likely continue to come over time.

Donkey Kong Bananza, Nintendo Music,

I’ve made it no secret how much I enjoyed Donkey Kong Bananza. It’s not on my personal “Game of the Year,” but it’s the first game in a LONG time that I’ve given a 5-star score for. Truly, it’s one of the most fun games I’ve ever played. My question going into its release, though, wasn’t just how good it was, but how much it would sell. It’s been a LONG time since DK had a new game, and his last two new ones banked on nostalgia more than innovation. So, with today’s Nintendo financial briefing, I finally got my answer: it sold very well.

As noted in the briefing, Donkey Kong Bananza has sold just under 3.5 million units since its release on July 17th. To be clear, the briefing only covered the period from July to September 30th. That means that, more than likely, it’s over 3.5 million now.

What that number also means is that, in comparison to the sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, about 1-in-3 owners of the console also own DK’s newest title. That’s a pretty good ratio! Plus, as the holiday season rolls in, and people start getting or giving gifts, those numbers are likely to go much higher. This will definitely be an evergreen title for the Switch 2, and should hopefully guarantee that Donkey Kong gets another chance to flex his solo muscles.
