Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Announced at New York Comic Con 2025

Coming out of New York Comic Con 2025, a brand-new fighting game based on the beloved Avatar universe has been revealed, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game.

Described as a fast-paced 1v1 fighter, players will be able to battle as their favorite characters from across the Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra franchises. Built with rollback netcode and full cross-play support, this upcoming fighter aims to preserve the expressive hand-drawn animation style that made the animated series so iconic. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is set to launch and will arrive on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.

It’ll be interesting to see how this one turns out, especially since the fighting game scene is currently thriving. With titles like Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, and Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves still dominating, with newcomers such as 2XKO and Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls on the way, the genre has never been more competitive.

Historically, Avatar-themed games haven’t connected strongly with fans, often criticized for underwhelming gameplay or rushed execution. Still, the bending mechanics and elemental combat are a natural fit for a fighting game, and if executed well, this could finally be the Avatar title fans have been waiting for.

What’s also interesting is that Gameplay Group International is listed as the studio behind the project. Despite some online speculation, this is not the same team as Mane6, the developers of Them’s Fightin’ Herds. While Mane6 was acquired by Maximum Games / Modus Games back in January 2022, reports from September 2025 indicate that Gameplay Group International acquired publishing rights (and possibly other assets) for Them’s Fightin’ Herds. That move positioned them as a publisher known for reviving dormant or “cancelled” titles, which might explain how they landed the Avatar license.

Whether this is the fighting game that finally does the Avatar franchise justice remains to be seen, but so far, fans of the Avatar shows are pretty excited about this title from what I’ve been seeing across social media. We’ll have to see if the game can stick the landing.
