Kirby and the Forgotten Land Team Discuss Switch 2 Version and Future Titles!

Taking an opportunity, and seeing future ones!

Kirby and the Forgotten Land

There were many Nintendo Switch games to enjoy during its main run, and easily one of the best was Kirby and the Forgotten Land. This title took Kirby’s classic stylings and put them into a semi-open-world space, while also giving the pink puffball new enemies, abilities, and challenges. It was a huge success, which is likely why it was given the tap for a “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” via the Star-Crossed World bonus content. In the expanded version of the title, a meteor infects the land and its inhabitants, and it’s up to Kirby and his pals to stop it before more damage is done.

In an interview with Nintendo Dream Web, Kirby and the Forgotten Land Producer Kei Ninomiya said that the team wanted to do more with the original game, but wasn’t sure if they could. Then, when the Switch 2 was unveiled to them, they knew there was a chance to do more:

“Originally, we had thought it would be fun to expand the world of Forgotten Land even further, but we hadn’t been able to put it into practice. Then the idea of the Nintendo Switch 2 came up, and we were delighted to launch the project, as we felt that we could make use of its capabilities to expand the world of Forgotten Land in an appealing way. From there, we worked at a rapid pace to develop the game so that we could deliver the Kirby experience on the Switch 2 as quickly as possible.”

They were able to achieve that, as the game was out just a few months after the launch of the Switch 2. However, that does have fans wondering what is next for Kirby, and General Producer Shinya Kumazaki had an answer to that:

“There’s a lot to look forward to in the future, so for now I’d like to leave some room for imagination. However, since this is an upgraded version of Forgotten Land there may be many players who want to immerse themselves even more in the game.”

Given the success of Kirby titles on Nintendo platforms, it’s inevitable we’ll get a new game featuring the icon. The only question is about what kind of game he’ll be in this go-around.
