OG Nintendo Switch Reaches Impressive Milestone In Japan

Still going strong!

Nintendo Switch Successor

Right now, many eyes are on the Switch 2 and its success regarding both hardware numbers, software numbers, and the support from both 1st and 3rd party developers to help ensure its success in the coming years. However, even with all that’s going on with it, the original Nintendo Switch line of consoles continues to sell well. For proof of this, you need only look at Japan. Even with the Switch 2 selling out in the nation, the OG Switch continues to sell, and as noted in the newest numbers by Game Infinitus, the system has crossed 36 million sold in Japan alone.

As one person noted on Blue Sky, that’s over 1/4th of the population of Japan. So, yeah, that’s a lot. The latest numbers highlight that the Nintendo Switch is selling about 16K a week, which is about double what the PS5 is selling in Japan, based on past numbers.

As for the Switch 2, it’s already passed 2 million units sold in Japan. While it may have a long way to go to catch up with its predecessor, it’s clearly off to a great start. Plus, with big franchises like Pokémon, Kirby, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid coming out in the next few months, the console units are likely to continue flying off the shelves.
