Final Fantasy VII Remake To Get Switch 2 and Xbox Demos This Year

Still on the fence? Try the demos!

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Given recent AAA failings across all brands and publishers, it’s easy and fair to wonder if a game’s release, even if it’s just a port, will be good on the consoles or PC system it’s going to. In the case of Final Fantasy VII Remake, the title from Square Enix has been on PlayStation platforms and PC for years. Now, though, it’s getting ready for a launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox platforms. Earlier today, we talked about how director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the game has been optimized for both systems, especially the Nintendo Switch 2, and thus, you shouldn’t have to worry about it.

That being said, in that same interview, Hamaguchi noted that if you do still have fears about the game on Nintendo’s or Xbox’s platform, you can play a demo that’ll be released later this year to see what it’s like:

I wanted to mention that at the end of the year, a demo is coming out for Switch 2 and Xbox. So players who might still be on the fence or unsure about playing, it’d be great for them to experience [the demo] and feel the full specs of these new consoles.

That’s a great idea, as it opens the door for more sales when the game drops on January 22nd, and will encourage people to at least “give it a shot” instead of buying it cold turkey and realizing the game has issues. While not confirmed, it’s likely that Final Fantasy VII Remake’s sequel, Rebirth, will also get a demo when the time comes.

On another note, the director said that he really likes playing the game on the Switch 2’s handheld mode:

“Personally, I would say handheld mode. When I played and saw Final Fantasy 7 optimized and fully operating fluidly on this Nintendo console, it was pretty moving for me. I’d like other players to experience that as well.”

In a few months, Hamaguchi will get his wish.
