A new trailer has popped up for Trails in the Sky First Chapter from Gungho Online Entertainment. This time it deals with explaining the battle system that the game will be using. For fans of the previous version of the game, this is probably one of the biggest changes for the Remake.
Similar to Trails Through Daybreak, you fight mobs, generally starting in real-time action combat. Harder enemies will require you to activate the turn-based combat system. In the real-time action combat, you have normal attacks and charge attacks. Charge attacks can help stun the enemies, letting you dish out more combos of normal attacks, or if you change into turn-based combat while an enemy is stunned, you can immediately do a chain attack or a brave attack. You can also dodge attacks. Dodging attacks at the exact moment they’re about to hit you refills the charge gauge.
Turn-Based Combat has a few new advantages, too, from the old version of the game. You can move during turn-based combat to decide where you want your attacks to land. It also lets you gauge your Area of Effect skills, letting you methodically place it between many enemies. Animations for the characters’ craft skills have also been revamped from the 2D sprite models to showcase how beautiful this game engine looks in 3D. Arts make a comeback as well. You can use Arts to target enemies who have high physical resistance but low elemental resistance.
You can stun enemies in Turn-Based combat by filling up their stun gauge. Once you attack a stunned enemy, you can have another character in your party team up for a chain attack. These are similar to the Link attacks from the Trails of Cold Steel series. Another character will do a basic attack and do damage to the enemy. You can opt to do a brave attack instead, which has both the character that struck the stunned enemy and the other party character attack the enemy at the same time.
If you let your CP gauge fill up to max, you can unleash S-Break skills, which are essentially more powerful Craft skills that dish out a lot of damage. You can overfill your CP gauge to 200% and unleash even more damage with that S-Break skill.
