Final Thoughts

While I will admit that I haven’t played the Mega Man Zero games as much as I had the classic or X series, I can tell that this series seems to take place during the events of Mega Man Zero 2, as Phantom is destroyed, Copy X has also been destroyed, and Elpizo has taken command of the resistance from Ciel.

A caravan is attacked by forces from Neo Arcadia; however, Zero shows up and puts a stop to it. With his systems in dire need of repair, they do what they can to service him. Meanwhile, the resistance looks to break into a storage facility for some power cells. This draws the attention of the four three guardians: Harpuia (although the comic says Harpunia), Leviathan, and Fefnir. After dispatching the resistance and stopping the theft of the power cells, Harpuia reports to the council.

There, he lies about Master (Copy) X escorting Phantom on an investigation mission, but states that in X’s absence, he is the de facto leader. This buys them some time. Meanwhile, Neo Arcadia unleashes another massive force. Newly repaired, Zero takes to the battlefield.

Interesting to note that we get the END tag on the final page instead of a “To Be Continued” tag. Was this meant to only be a 1-issue series? It does state that things continue in Mega Man ZX Timelines, which will see X and Zero turned into biometals. That’s a shame because there is so much lore in the Zero series that it would have made for an excellent series.

In any event, what we got was pretty decent. I didn’t expect them to start with the second game, though. I would have thought they would have shown Zero being discovered, Ciel bringing him back to the base, and setting up the battle between Zero and X, but to their credit, at least they established the time skip and mentioned the Elf Wars.

I’m hoping there will be other issues, but if not, then this is going to be rather disappointing.
