Mortal Kombat II Film Delayed To 2026

Koming...Later...
By Todd BlackAugust 29, 2025
Mortal Kombat 2, Mortal Kombat II

If you were ready for Kombat this year, you’re going to have to wait a bit until you finally get it. Mortal Kombat II was the highly anticipated sequel to the 2021 live-action reboot of the NetherRealm Studios fighting franchise. The sequel promised bigger fights, the vaunted tournament setting, and the inclusion of fan-favorite characters, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. The first trailer this year did really well, views-wise, and yet, as reported by Deadline, the film has now been delayed.

More specifically, the film has been pushed back to May 15th, 2026. So, the question you might have is…why would they do this, especially with all the hype they had drummed up for it so far? The simple answer is that projections for the film’s box office revenue seem to point to it doing better in May next year than in October this year.

It’s fair to say that there are a lot of expectations on Mortal Kombat II, especially since the first film was more about streaming numbers, due to the global pandemic, than anything else. Plus, the first film had some mixed reviews and feelings from viewers. Thus, Warner Bros definitely wants this movie to not just do well, but excel at the box office to ensure the planned third film from the trilogy happens…and makes them more money.
