There’s been a lot going on this week in gaming, including Gamescom going on right now! At that very show was Yoshi-P, who went on Opening Night Live yesterday to talk about Final Fantasy XIV and a certain collaboration it was getting with Monster Hunter Wilds. However, that wasn’t the only thing about the game he had on his mind. Specifically, when he chatted with VGC, he admitted that he’d love the MMORPG to come over to the Nintendo Switch 2, and even teased that there had been “discussions” with Nintendo to make it happen.
He went so far as to note that due to the “playstyle” that the Nintendo Switch 2 offers, it could allow for casual players to enjoy the title in a way that dedicated PC gamers wouldn’t:
“When it comes to existing Final Fantasy XIV players, if hypothetically a Switch 2 version was released, they would have the chance, for example, going through the main story – they could play that on the PC and do raiding on the PC. But when it comes to other types of content, they could sit back, relax on the sofa with the Switch 2 in hand, and they could do their gatherer and crafter content, and I’m super excited about that sort of possibility for our players.”
It’s fair to see why Yoshi-P would think that, especially given how the OG Switch changed how people played games in general, and the Switch 2 and its games are building upon that. Plus, he acknowledges that Nintendo gamers can sometimes be younger in age and that this could be their first experience with an MMORPG, and would like to bank on that, too. Oh, and Yoshi-P was serious about those talks with The Big N:
“So to this end, we have been discussing with Nintendo, and the discussions have been positive, so I do hope that players will look forward to hopefully good news in the future.”
We’ll see how it all plays out, now won’t we?
