When Drag x Drive was shown at the very first Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, it didn’t get a lot of buzz. In many ways, it was a perfect example of “Nintendo going off the rails” to create something unique, as the game was a 3v3 basketball-style title with the players being confined to wheelchairs. While details about the game have trickled out since then, a sense of WHY gamers should give this title a shot, pun intended, hasn’t emerged…until now. Last night, Nintendo dropped an overview trailer for the game, and it breaks down the rather impressive amounts of depth the sports game has.
The trailer starts off by showing you the controls, but then shifts into revealing how games will go, and the numerous moves you have to win the game. Each match will be just three minutes, which means you’ll be in a sprint to get as many points as possible. To that end, you can shoot for two points inside the arc, three points outside the arc, or do special trick shots to get extra boosts to your score. That means a fraction of a point can literally decide the game.
In terms of “moves,” you won’t just be able to race around and shoot. You’ll have the ability to “communicate” with your two teammates to ask for the ball, block shots, ram into other players to knock the ball away, not to mention doing things like Bunny Hops and “tilting” your chair so you can do various other things.
As for where you play your games, that would be in “The Park.” Drag x Drive will allow 12 players to be in The Park at once, and two games can happen simultaneously when enough players are there. Plus, there are mini-games to enjoy while you’re waiting for matches to start, or you can “opt out” of a match and either spectate or practice your own game before you take on others.
If that’s not enough for you, there are three types of players you can be to suit your playstyle: Guard, Center, and Forward. Each has different stats, so pick the one that’s best for you. There’s even more to see in the overview trailer below, so give it a watch:
