Fire Emblem Three Houses Celebrates Anniversary, Is Next Entry To Be Announced Soon?

How does one top what happened in Fodlan?

Fire Emblem Three Houses

If you listen to the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, you’ll know that Fire Emblem is my favorite Nintendo franchise. I may have gotten into it “late,” but once it started its “boom period” via Awakening, things got better and better with pretty much every entry. Nintendo took notice of how well it did on handhelds, and how well fans responded to the Smash Bros reps, and went all out for Fire Emblem Three Houses on the Nintendo Switch. As my review from the period noted, it was a magnificent game, and it became the best-selling title in the series and of its genre.

As a post from Stealth notes, today is the 6th anniversary of the game, which is crazy to think about. In the time since its release, we not only got a great DLC expansion and a Warriors-style spinoff, but we also got Fire Emblem Engage, which advanced the series in different ways while also celebrating the past.

So, the question becomes, “What does the next entry look like on Nintendo Switch 2?” That is indeed the question, and many are hoping the rumored next Nintendo Direct has those answers. Most agree that following the style and depth of Fire Emblem Three Houses is the way to go, tone-wise. It had a truly great branching story, wonderful characters, and nice additions to the gameplay loop, while also giving players more to do when not within a battle.

Fire Emblem Engage may not have been as beloved, but it did add some nice visual overhauls, like with the battle UI and how animations went during fights. The right thing to do is to take the best of each and use the Switch 2’s grander graphics and processing power to tell a true epic that will have players locked in from the first chapter.

…then again, we also can’t rule out a remake of past titles like Genealogy of the Holy War, Binding Blade, or even Mystery of the Emblem. Only Nintendo knows the truth, and hopefully, they will reveal that truth soon.
