The Summer Hikaru Died

CyberAgent, Inc. announced today that the television anime adaptation of award-winning author Mokumokuren’s manga “The Summer Hikaru Died” (published by KADOKAWA; co-produced by CyberAgent and KADOKAWA; animation production by CygamesPictures) will appear at Otakon 2025, one of the largest anime and Asian pop culture conventions in North America.

The Summer Hikaru Died

Held annually in Washington, D.C., Otakon is a premier celebration of Japanese animation, manga, music, and broader East Asian culture. The 2025 edition will take place from August 8-10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, drawing tens of thousands of fans from across the United States and around the world.

As part of the event, a special panel will be held on Friday, August 8 at 5:45 PM, featuring Shuichiro Umeda, the voice actor of Hikaru. The session will include a live reading of scenes from the anime, as well as a discussion exploring the series’ emotional complexity, mysterious atmosphere, and appeal of the characters. An autograph session with Umeda is also scheduled.

“The Summer Hikaru Died” is a haunting supernatural drama that has captured the hearts of readers worldwide with its quiet intensity and psychological depth. The highly anticipated anime adaptation will premiere globally on Netflix starting July 5, 2025. Fans attending Otakon will enjoy exclusive behind-the-scenes insights and the rare opportunity to meet the voice of Hikaru in person.

Further details to be announced at a later date.
