Is The Original Super Smash Bros Coming To Nintendo Switch Online?

And Donkey 64 is coming, too?
By Todd BlackJuly 7, 2025
Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros

Nintendo has been making an effort to make its online service even more fun for players, especially those who have the Expansion Pack that grants them access to N64 titles, and now, via the Switch 2, GameCube titles. However, a new rumor is circling that some big new additions might be on the way. That rumor states that the original Super Smash Bros title is coming, and it might be bringing Donkey Kong 64 with it! If that’s true, that would be two huge additions to the service.

The reason the Donkey Kong 64 addition is appropriate is that it would be a nice “counterpart” to Donkey Kong Bananza, which is coming out in less than two weeks!

Rumor: Donkey Kong 64 and Super Smash Bros. might be coming to Switch Online. They were found from Nintendo's own classics update features video released a month ago. mynintendonews.com/2025/07/06/r…

As for the original Super Smash Bros title, this was the game that helped start the revolution that we’re still enjoying today. It was a game that “shouldn’t have worked,” but it did, and its last entry, Ultimate, is the best-selling fighting game of all time! Many people hope that Masahiro Sakurai will return to make the next entry, and there are rumors about that already out there, too!

Regardless, these are some retro titles that many will either get to re-experience or experience for the first time. So, we hope this rumor comes true!
