Baldur’s Gate III Stars Reveal Game’s Success Didn’t Boost Their Careers

Baldur’s Gate 3 Stars Reveal Game's Success Didn’t Boost Their Careers

Three voice actors from Baldur’s Gate III shared that the game’s incredible success hasn’t really impacted their careers.

Samantha Béart (Karlach), Theo Solomon (Wyll), and Dave Jones (Halsin) continue to receive immense fan love, but the casting and recording agency staff are often far removed from the world of video games and, as a result, are unable to fully appreciate the actors’ portfolios.

For example, Samantha Béart explained (thanks VGC) that while successful voice actors might seem to have a life full of wealth and steady work, it’s actually not the case. Many studios outside the gaming world don’t fully understand the gaming industry, and the acting world is overcrowded. To show their talents, actors often have to show off awards or talk about being nominated for different prizes.

Theo Solomon believes that this is just the fate of actors – they must keep searching for new roles, build connections, and sometimes even go without work. Dave Jones concluded that, in the case of video games, past achievements have little impact on getting new roles. It’s all about performing well in “blind auditions.” Even award-winning actors can find themselves out of work, and that’s something every actor must get used to.
