I’ve been happy to gush about the return of the Backyard titles since they were acquired by Playground Productions last year. Since then, two games have been brought to modern systems, including the original Backyard Baseball, which was recently brought to the Nintendo Switch and PS5. Today, it was announced by the team that Backyard Baseball ’01 is next in line, and it’ll arrive on July 8th for Steam and mobile devices! Just as important, most of the MLB characters who were in the original game will be in the remaster!

As noted by Variety, the team are very excited for the game’s return:
“Similar to the remastered ’97 game, the 2001 relaunch will include the classic gameplay for touch and modern PC controls. ‘Backyard Baseball ‘01’ will include official MLB marks, including usage of individual team logos, names and likeness.”
They went on to say:
“It’s really exciting, because we had to go through the process of regaining all of the original rights from the game. And so that was the MLB, and then there were 31 professional players, All Stars from that era of baseball. And so we had to get all their rights and likenesses back in the game. And the MLB has been so incredibly supportive of this game, and also of just this partnership, which has been really an exciting thing for us.”
Undoubtedly, Backyard Baseball ’01 will come to consoles later on, as well as the return of the other titles in the franchise. Plus, there’s an all-new game coming out eventually…
