Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Brings the Full Experience to Switch 2

It's also coming to other platforms, so don't worry

It’s no longer a rumor, as Fromsoftware and Bandai Namco have revealed that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is officially a thing, and it’s bringing everything—and then some—to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. And for those of us who aren’t getting a Switch 2, don’t worry because all the updates included in this version are also coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

This new version bundles the full Elden Ring base game with the massive Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, along with new features and some quality-of-life tweaks. Think of it as the Game of the Year edition, that FromSoftware fans knew was coming, but with a few surprises thrown in.

For starters, Tarnished Edition includes the entire base game. Everything from the Lands Between to the infamous Tree Sentinel beatdowns is here. But what seals the deal is that it also comes packed with Shadow of the Erdtree, the massive expansion that introduced the Land of Shadow, a new story arc, intense new bosses, and a slew of weapons and armor that feel like they were ripped straight out of a nightmare. Which is fantastic for those who were on the fence about jumping into the world of Elden Ring and either didn’t own a system to play it (mainly Nintendo Switch owners) or were just waiting for this, and if it’s the latter, that’s quite the gamble.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition also introduces two new starting classes. First up is the Knight of Ides, who starts with the ridiculously powerful Milady Light Greatsword, which happens to be a weapon that would normally take someone hours to find in the DLC. Then there’s the Heavy Knight, a class built for people who like to smash everything slowly, methodically, and without mercy.

Along with the new classes, there are also fresh armor sets and weapons to mess around with. So if you’re a build junkie, there’s more to experiment with. Oh, and Torrent? You can finally customize your spectral horse now.

While Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition has been announced for the Switch 2, there hasn’t been any release date for this mentioned as of yet. Will the newly updated version come to other platforms first, then the Switch 2, or will it be the other way around? I suppose we’ll find out sooner or later.

Regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing how the game performs on the Switch 2, and if adding DLSS support, which I’m assuming will be in the game, will help out in terms of performance.
