MindsEye Actor Criticizes Game's Early Release, Says 'I Don't Like This Model'

The commercial failure and poor reviews of MindsEye have disappointed players and even the actor Alex Hernandez, who plays the protagonist Jacob Diaz.

In an interview with Check It TV, Hernandez admits the frustrations of fans with Leslie Benzies’ game, a video game producer and the former president of Rockstar, because he himself is not happy with the debut of this action-adventure. He provides an explanation: the game was released prematurely.

“I don’t know whether it’s the company deciding to release something that has these issues and then sort of taking care of it postmortem post release,” Hernandez explained, referencing the RPG Cyberpunk 2077. However, CD Projekt RED worked to improve the game with updates and enhancements, something that isn’t clear if Build A Rocket Boy will be able to achieve.

“As a gamer, as a consumer, I don’t love that model,” he says, because from a consumer’s perspective, releasing an incomplete game at 100% of its price harms the long-term reputation.

Instead, he leans more towards models like early access or launching free betas that clearly show their progress. “I’m not sure what drives companies to essentially carry out beta testing without calling it that. As a consumer, I would rather be told upfront because then I know what I’m signing up for.

MindsEye, released on June 11 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, is the lowest-rated game of the year among major releases, with just a 38/100 on Metacritic and “Mostly Negative” reviews on Steam.
