Alderon Games Founder Warns Many PS5 Consoles Could Fail in Two Years Due to Liquid Metal Cooling Issue

More than once in the past, potential issues related to the liquid metal cooling system in every PS5 have been discussed. Now, a new voice joins the conversation: Matthew Cassells, founder of Alderon Games (Path of Titans), who spoke with Moore Law is Dead.

The issue is related to the fact that the Sony console, if kept upright, could experience dry spots over the APU, which could compromise its functionality and even force a shutdown under certain conditions.

Reports of such incidents have been increasing over time, with even members of the Alderon Games team experiencing similar problems. They believe the most common cause is related to liquid metal.

After speaking with Sony, Alderon Games discovered that the more intense the video game, the higher the likelihood that the PS5 will experience a forced shutdown. Following the most recent update to Path of Titans, the percentage of players experiencing issues rose by 2-3%. Although this is not a huge number, it still has a notable impact.

Additionally, the PS5 Slim and Pro models have received modifications that may reduce the issue, while older models may be at greater risk. According to Matthew Cassells, within a couple of years, many old PS5 models will be dead.
