I’ve had to write quite a few Nintendo Switch 2 sales posts this week, because news keeps coming out about how well the system has done in various places. In Japan, a whole bunch of sales figures have dropped, painting a clear picture of how big the system will be there. However, thanks to Famitsu, we can now take these sales figures to a new level. How so? Simply put, they revealed how well the Switch has done in its first two weeks, compared to the lifetime sales of other systems.
As it turns out, as you can see below, the Nintendo Switch 2 has not only already outsold the Xbox Series X/S in Japan, but the digital version of the PS5…all in two weeks!
In Japan, the Switch 2 has already outsold the lifetime sales of the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Digital Edition.
It took two weeks.
Switch 2 – 1,101,136
PS5 Digital – 975,486
Xbox Series S – 337,811
Xbox Series X – 320,762
Xbox Series X Digital – 20,854https://t.co/qZhVjYzpZZ pic.twitter.com/Op6Yu2zksG— Stealth (@Stealth40k) June 20, 2025
You also have to remember that Japan is facing some SERIOUS shortages right now, and if they had them in stock, they would likely be over 2.2 million right now (based on confirmed pre-order figures before launch). Here’s another thing to consider. The mainline PS5 was confirmed to be just under 6 million in Japan. So the Switch 2 is already over 1/6 of that, and you KNOW it’s going to top it sooner rather than later.
If there’s any lingering doubts that the console won’t do well, they should be gone, especially after the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct that highlighted the next must-have game on the system.
