Star Trek Strange New Worlds Gets Greenlit For Final Season

Boldly going...one last time.
By Todd BlackJune 12, 2025
Star Trek Strange New Worlds

Star Trek has always had a unique history in TV, movies, and now streaming services. After the Abrams trilogy, things kind of “stopped” for a little bit, and then Paramount+ came around, and all of a sudden, we had all sorts of series in the universe. We had Discovery, Lower Decks, Picard, and arguably the best of the lot, Star Trek Strange New Worlds. This series delved into the (mostly) untapped timeline of Captain Pike, who was the captain of the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk took over. Many, including myself, were amazed by its expansion of the lore, while also delving into the awe and wonder that the original series brought decades ago.

Today, as noted by Variety, Star Trek Strange New Worlds was greenlit for its fifth and final season. That’s important because Season 3 is about to air and Season 4 is being filmed right now. Both the third and fourth seasons will have a full 10 episodes to tell their stories, while the fifth season will wrap up things in six episodes. Showrunner Akiva Goldsman had this to say about the ending to the series:

“From the very beginning, STRANGE NEW WORLDS set out to honor what STAR TREK has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope and the belief that a better future is possible. We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew. And to the passionate fans who’ve boldly joined us on this journey — THANK YOU. With three more spectacular seasons ahead for you to see and enjoy, this adventure is far from over.”

It’s sad to see this one go, especially with how quality things are with it, and the fact that all the other Star Trek series have ended or will end soon, outside of one. Hopefully, some new announcements will come to boldly take us to where we’ve never gone before.
