Hideki Kamiya “Trusted” Sakurai To Make Bayonetta Work In Super Smash Bros

His faith was rewarded.

Trust is something that has been called into question a lot in the gaming industry recently. After all, certain heads of various developers and publishers keep making decisions that are “questionable” at best, and that has led to great talents departing key companies. One such person is Hideki Kamiya, the genius behind many successful games and franchises. He worked at Platinum Games for a long time, until the company turned away from what it was good at, so he departed. On his YouTube channel, Kamiya answered many, MANY questions, including one about Bayonetta being in Super Smash Bros.

Specifically, he talked about how he didn’t have control over how Bayonetta played in the game, as legendary creator Masahiro Sakurai ran that show. Yet, he revealed that this didn’t bother him at all:

Kamiya fully trusted Sakurai when Bayonetta was added to Smash Bros.

“I told Sakurai to do whatever he wanted. I trusted him to do the best job.”

Respect and trust in Sakurai is why Smash Bros. has the most improbable guest character roster.https://t.co/rM3zMIeOZd pic.twitter.com/fVG6X0nXtD

Well…he did! In fact, he made sure that the Umbra Witch didn’t “lose her charm” in the game, though they did have to “tone down” her “exposure,” if you get my drift. Hideki Kamiya and Sakurai have long been friends, and often take pictures with one another when they meet up for a dinner or a meeting. It says a lot that Kamiya, who is known to be a bit of a troll at times, had complete faith in Masahiro’s work that he would pull off Bayonetta’s moveset and style.

We don’t know whether there will be another Smash Bros project, but many are hoping it happens, and that this magnificent witch comes to play once again.
