One of the biggest questions on the minds of anime fans is “When is No Game, No Life getting a Second Season?” After all, it has been eleven years since the first season of the anime aired.
Well, yesterday, the anime’s director, Atsuko Ishizuka, took part in an interview and said some things that may have led to Madhouse not renewing the show for a second season. Ishizuka said that she is an illustrator at her core, and when she looked at the illustrations in the light novel, she was captured by their beauty and wanted to replicate that in the anime.
One of the things she didn’t realize was that there are certain rules when it comes to creating anime with one of them using black outlines for character silhouettes. Anyone who has seen the anime knows that the characters are outlined in different colors. While this doesn’t seem like a major issue, especially today when there are many more anime pushing the boundaries, Ishizuka admitted that going in this direction, at the time, created a lot of headaches for the staff, and it even received some negative pushback. In addition, she mentioned how the working conditions were brutal, and that many staff members (including herself) lost sleep on that project.
Another reason she gave during the interview is that Madhouse has taken an interest in making more original anime than adaptations. Possibly due to a mixture of this, along with the negative experiences in making the first season, it could serve as the reason why, eleven years later, a second season is nowhere in sight.
