We all know that Shigeru Miyamoto is one of the most important people in the history of gaming, developing numerous franchises that still endure to this day. That’s just facts. However, in recent years, he’s been working on helping grow Nintendo as a company beyond just gaming. He helped with the Super Mario Bros Movie (which will get a sequel soon enough) and was instrumental in the development and promotion of Super Nintendo World, which just opened its Orlando theme park. However, even after all of that, he still has a soft spot for Pikmin.
In an interview with IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto talked about how he wanted to expand the franchise in various ways:
“I spent a lot of time the past five, six years really wanting to grow Pikmin. Obviously a lot of that is focused around Pikmin Bloom and there was also new Pikmin titles that released. But I wanted to see if there’s other ways that we can have people engage and get to know Pikmin that’s outside of the population that plays video games, for example.”
We know part of that was making things like the mobile title, Pikmin Bloom, but he feels the franchise has an even broader appeal, especially due to how it can connect with younger audiences. To that end, when broached about a potential TV show or movie, Miyamoto seemed up for it:
I think Pikmin has this unique ability to have appeal across a broad range in that it’s still appealing for both younger audiences and older audiences and in Japan. And so I’m hoping that we can expand that globally. So whether it’s some kind of a movie or show, things like that would be really fun.”
Anything is possible, especially if Nintendo keeps cranking out box office hits.
