A Welcoming World
Set in the idyllic Kilima Village and the expansive Bahari Bay, Palia invites players to immerse themselves in a world where they can fish, farm, cook, and build their dream homes. The vibrant, inviting art style creates a serene atmosphere that encourages relaxation and creativity. The addition of the Elderwood zone adds a new layer of depth, with its dense forests, magical creatures, and hidden relics enhancing the overall sense of adventure.
The Elderwood expansion is a significant addition, offering a new Adventure Zone filled with unique flora and fauna, as well as the introduction of relics—powerful items that provide buffs to players and their parties. This new content enriches the gameplay experience, encouraging exploration and collaboration.
On Xbox Series X, Palia runs smoothly, with optimized controls that make navigating menus and building structures intuitive. The game’s performance is stable, and the visual fidelity is impressive, capturing the charm of its PC counterpart. Cross-play and cross-progression are fully supported, enabling seamless transitions between platforms.
Palia emphasizes community and cooperation, with features that allow players to share resources and participate in group activities. However, some players have noted limitations in the multiplayer aspects, such as the inability to engage in cooperative building or trade directly with others. These constraints can make the game feel more like a single-player experience, despite its MMO designation.
Areas for Improvement
While Palia offers a relaxing and visually appealing experience, there are still areas that could benefit from further development. The narrative, while present, may not satisfy players looking for a deeper or more intricate storyline. Additionally, some users have reported stability issues, including occasional crashes and performance slowdowns. One notable concern is the inability to link PC and Xbox profiles, which can be frustrating for players hoping for a seamless cross-platform experience.
Palia on Xbox Series X delivers a charming and serene experience, perfect for players looking to unwind and dive into creative gameplay. The Elderwood expansion brings meaningful new content that encourages exploration and teamwork. However, the limited multiplayer features and light narrative may leave some players wanting more. With continued updates and feedback from the community, Palia has the potential to grow into a deeper, more rewarding MMO adventure.
A Cozy MMO with Room to Grow
Summary
Palia is a great example of what a cozy game can be. It expands the genre and adds a lot of new features that some other cozy games don’t offer. However, it does fall short when compared to cozy game classics like Stardew Valley and the My Time At series. I really enjoyed my time with the game and plan to keep playing, hoping future updates bring even more great content.
Pros
- Enjoyable & Cozy
- Laid Back Playing
- Great Community Intergration
Cons
- A Little Confusing Sometimes
- Better With Friends
