Take-Two President Praises Nintendo For Being “Supportive” Of 3rd-Party Titles In Recent Years

A bigger partnership brewing, perhaps?

One of the biggest separators between the Nintendo Switch launch in 2017 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 launch is the number of 3rd parties supporting Nintendo this time around. In the OG Switch era, only certain publishers/developers risked putting big, exclusive titles on the system until they KNEW that the console would sell. However, this time, multiple teams have come forward to put lots of big games on it either at launch or in the launch window. One of those publishers is Take-Two, which has multiple games coming to the Switch 2 upon release and a big title in Borderlands 4 coming out simultaneously on the console in September.

In a chat with The Game Business, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had plenty to say about The Big N, including that he’s a “big believer” in what the company is doing with the Switch 2:

“We feel really good about it (Switch 2). But it always remains to be seen. We’re offering more on launch support than ever before for a Nintendo platform. We’ve announced four titles for Switch 2. It remains to be seen how it does, but I am a big believer.”

He went further and said that Nintendo has done a good job in courting 3rd-party teams:

“Historically, Nintendo has done a better and more supportive job with first-party titles. But I think they are aiming to change that. And we have basically risen to the challenge and opportunity, and we’ll see how it goes. We voted with our feet. Nintendo has asked us to be supportive, and we do believe we’re doing that. Now we will see what happens.”

Indeed, they will no doubt wonder what happens with the console and their games when June 5th comes around. Let’s see how it goes!
