Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continues to take the role-playing world by storm. The official X account posted yesterday that Clair Obscur has already sold 2 million copies. This comes as especially impressive news considering that the game debuted less than two weeks ago.
Developed by French studio Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a fantasy RPG. Despite being primarily turn-based, the game also mixes real-time elements into its combat. The game also boasts grand visuals inspired by Bell Époque France.
The developers shared their reaction to the news as well:
We’ve watched in awe as so many of you began your journey. Feeling every step, every emotion, every revelation alongside you.
In our review, we called Clair Obscur “an amazing experience and game, especially when you consider its development.” We also praised the game’s characters, lore, and combat. Even with some small gripes about platforming, we awarded the game a rare perfect score.
Players are clearly enjoying Clair Obscur. Its success shows that even in 2025, a studio can still succeed with a turn-based RPG. And with a shorter runtime even, as the game clocks in at roughly 30 hours. Many eagerly await to see what this plucky studio cooks up next.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
