Is ASUS Teasing the ROG Ally 2 or is this an Elaborate April Fools’ Joke

Asus ROG Ally April Fools Tease 2025

While I am not a fan of reporting on things that border on being legit and possibly a hoax—thanks to how close we are to April Fools’ Day—I feel I wouldn’t be doing my duty if I didn’t do so. Just keep in mind that tomorrow is a day for trying to fool people, and sometimes, they start early. Today, on the ROG Ally X social media account, a cute but short video was shown featuring the Republic of Gamers mascot, Omni, working on an updated version of the ASUS ROG Ally. This new version is said to feature faster speeds, a fresh look, more capacity, and “Marathon stamina”—whatever that means—complete with some cute dabbing.

Following that, the mascot makes his way to a chamber of sorts, highly reminiscent of The Fly movie (look it up). However, he accidentally causes an ROG Ally and a controller to get catapulted into the chamber as well. The end result was another ROG Ally being created, but because it was obscured by darkness, we couldn’t see exactly what it was.

It’s no secret that I enjoyed the original ASUS ROG Ally and eventually the follow-up, the ROG Ally X. Not to mention, ASUS had already made it known that it was working on the ASUS ROG Ally 2—we just didn’t know when we’d see it. However, it had been speculated that it wouldn’t be released until AMD managed to get its Zen 5 architecture onto an SoC S(System on-a-chip). Recently, it was revealed that AMD has completed this and announced the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2, and Ryzen Z2 Go—the latter of which will be used in the upcoming Lenovo Legion Go 2, set to release in May 2025.

All of this means that these new mobile chips are powerful. Boasting more processing power, better power proficiency, and better graphical power. Just how much over the original Ryzen Z1 and Z2 has yet to be seen.

So, where does that leave us with ASUS? This could quite possibly be a legitimate reveal now that the new Ryzen Z2 and Z2 Extreme chips are available. And lest we forget, the ROG Ally X was pretty much a stop gap or a test run for the ROG Ally 2.

I have so many questions about this now. Will it still run Windows 11? Will it run Steam OS? Will this finally be the reveal of that Gamified Windows OS we’ve been asking for since forever? Will it cost less than $1000?

Either way, we’ll find out soon whether this is a joke or a real reveal. Just keep in mind that back in 2023 when the ROG Ally was firs revealed, it was also done on April Fools. I just hope if it does turn out to be legit, that perhaps we get a larger screen, because 7-inch screens are starting to become an issue on my old eyes.
