There Was Almost A Halo Game On Nintendo DS

By Todd BlackMarch 31, 2025
Xbox - Halo Infinite

As I’ve noted many a time on the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast and beyond, gaming history is full of “What If?” scenarios, and it’s always a blast finding them and seeing what could have been. Gaming YouTube channels like “Did You Know Gaming?” are perfect sources to explain these scenarios, as they go deep into the histories of all involved to see how things almost happened. In their latest episode, they revealed the true story of how Bungie almost made a Halo game for the Nintendo DS! Yes. Really.

The team at N-Space was developing it, and it was apparently one that had a bunch of effort put into it, especially in getting six-player multiplayer to work! That would’ve been quite a feat, given the DS and its online capabilities. The game went far into development, but apparently, Nintendo itself stopped the development overall, allegedly over financial expectations of them during the project.

The irony of this is that Halo could still arrive on Nintendo platforms, as some expect at least one game from the series to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2.
