Will The Nintendo Switch 2 Have Software “Phases” In Its First Year?

Is it April 2nd yet?
By Todd BlackMarch 25, 2025
Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 will get its big presentation a week from tomorrow, and both I and my fellow Nintendo Entertainment Podcast hosts are quivering with anticipation because we believe it’ll be something truly special. We want to know more about the system, its release date, its pricing, and, of course, its software lineup. In recent weeks, there have been TONS of reports/rumors/leaks about what games may or may not be shown in the presentation. It’s a true waiting game…and it sucks to be part of it.

However, one report shares an “interesting light” on what might be coming, as Tom Henderson apparently feels the Nintendo Switch 2 software launch will start big with 1st parts in its early months, then shift to big 3rd party titles, and then drop big titles for the holiday period:

Nintendo obviously provided dev kits to it's closest partners already, perhaps over a year ago, but it sounds like June is when they will be more freely distributed (i.e to indies).

I wouldn't worry about Capcom, Square Enix, Koei Tecmo, Namco… not having many already.

Obviously, this is just speculation, and we have no doubt that 1st party knockouts will be released throughout 2025, as that’s what happened with the OG Switch, and it helped deliver big hardware numbers as a result. No matter how much truth there is in this report, we’ll all find out what’s coming on April 2nd!
