Potential Nintendo Switch 2 Price “Controversy” Addressed By Company President

Nintendo will keep an eye on things, for obvious reasons.

Nintendo Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 will be one of the most important releases of 2025. Period. The hype behind it is already crazy, and then when you add in that we only know one confirmed 1st party game for it, you know that things will build further. However, while many are excited about it, many are worried about the console’s price. No, they’re not worried because “Nintendo will jack up the price due to demand!” Instead, they’re worried because certain politics are affecting various countries, and that might force them to raise the price of the console to cover costs.

We won’t get too much into this, but a certain “world leader” is imposing tariffs on multiple countries, including China. That’s important, because key semiconductors are made there, alongside other parts, and if prices for them go up, that could affect the new console. In response to this, as noted by Reuters Japan, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa had this to say:

“Nintendo Switch is not only manufactured in China, but in places such as Vietnam and Cambodia as well. We are predicting various geopolitical risks and establishing ways to respond”.

He went on to note:

“While we anticipate a certain impact, the influence on this year’s financial results is expected to be minimal. We will continue to observe the trends, and thoroughly consider how to respond.”

The Big N aren’t fools; they KNOW that if they raise the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 too much, even with a potentially legendary roster of games on it in its launch year, people may not be able to buy it in droves. However, they also can’t fight off what’s happening, as that’s not their call. In the end, we’ll only know the truth when the console launches later this year.
