Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Recovers Development Costs in One Day, Sells Over a Million Copies

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Recovers Development Costs in One Day, Sells Over a Million Copies

The game director Daniel Vavra revealed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 managed to recover its development costs in just one day, thanks to its incredible success with one million copies sold.

“Before the launch, we were betting in the studio on how many copies we could sell,” Vávra said (thanks Gamesradar). “And I won. I missed by 300 units.”

“We’re happy with the numbers, and if the trend continues at the same pace, it will be great,” the game director added. Before the release, he had strongly defended the game and its script.

The great success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 brings attention to a recent debate sparked by comments from Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson, who claimed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard did not sell as expected due to the lack of live service elements.

Some former BioWare employees responded with frustration to Wilson’s statement, arguing that such a transformation would have ruined the Dragon Age experience. They believe that the focus should have been on improving the aspects that worked well in the past.

In this sense, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, with its strictly single-player structure, has delivered a lesson to those who prioritize shareholder interests without considering the needs and preferences of the players who buy and enjoy the game.
